Fort Jackson is an Entry Training Center for the U.S. Army and trains more than 50 percent of all soldiers and 80 percent of all women entering the Army each year. It is home to the 165th, 171st, and 193rd Infantry Brigades. Both basic and advanced individual training is offered, and Fort Jackson remains the most active and largest training facility in the United States Army. Fort Jackson is home to more than 50 ranges and field training sites and covers over 50,000 acres. Housing at Fort Jackson is coordinated by the housing office located at 514 Stuart Ave. On-post housing is handled by the Balfour Beatty Communities, and military personnel must fill out an application and be put on a waiting list if applicable. For those wishing to live off-post, the Housing Services Office can help find available properties for sale or rent as well as identifying each individual’s BAH rates for rent and utilities. Their phone number is 803-751-7566. Temporary lodging is available through the Fort Jackson Inn (Welcome Center) which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 1-800-276-6984 or 803-782-9802 for more specific information. Off-post temporary lodging can be arranged through Victory Travel at 1-800-221-3503.
School information is handled through the School Liaison Officer who can help parents identify which schools their children will be attending in the neighboring school districts. They can be reached at 803-751-6150. Fort Jackson has two elementary schools for those students living on base. If students are in grades 7-12, they will attend school at the Richland District Two Schools. 7th & 8th graders attend Dent Middle School and 9th-12th graders attend Richland Northeast High School. For children living off post, two school districts are offered: Richland District 1 and Richland District 2. Alternative schools and charter schools are also available. Child and Youth Services Central Enrollment Office can be reached at 803-751-4869. It is located at 3392 Magruder Ave and offers children and youth programs for children 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Home daycare is provided by the Family Child Care Program in certified homes on base. For more specific information about programs, contact the office at 803-751-6234.
