Arriving in summer of 1918, the 157th In Bde fought with the 79th in Lorraine against a deeply entrenched German position, pushing deep into German-held territory, gaining about 6 miles in a war generally measured in feet. This gain, September 1918, stood until Armistice in November, one of the greatest pushes of the war. After the Great War the 157th was inactivated.

After fighting in Germany, and a short respite, the 97th was transferred to occupation duty in Japan. The unit was inactivated in place in 1946, then reactivated 1962-1994, and reactivated again in 2007.
